Sylvia Wright, LCSW
Sylvia Wright is a licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in NYS. She obtained her Master’s degree from Hunter College School of Social work in 1990. She began her professional career in mental health while working for the Community Mental Health Division of the Visiting Nurse Service of NY. It was here that she developed a passion for working with the chronically mentally ill with the goal of improving their everyday life. Sylvia started in direct practice working as an Intensive case management working with 10 clients. Sylvia was promoted and then led an Assertive community treatment team, one of the first in the New York City area. While employed at the VNS, Sylvia also served on the mobile crisis team and the geriatric team, which rounded out her experience as a Community mental health professional.
Sylvia also had the opportunity to provide individual psychotherapy to students at Barnard College. She worked directly under the supervision of a PhD level psychologist and the Clinic director a Social work trained Psychiatrist. Her training was thorough.
While Sylvia is committed to mental health she readily admits that she has two loves, Child welfare and mental health. As a result of these shared passions, she has worked in both the foster care system and the preventive care system trying to impact and improve the lives of children and their families.
Proud and humbled by her faith in God, Sylvia has served in church as the resident social worker. She trains ministry leaders in various areas, ranging from identifying & intervening in domestic violence, Indicators of child abuse and neglect, establishing and operating in boundaries and other trainings as requested. She is first to work with anyone identified as having problems, regardless of the type of problem. She enjoys helping others, especially when they are engaged in the process.
In addition to Sylvia’s experience and commitment to clinical interventions, she is an accomplished administrator. Sylvia has been effective in implementing new programs and also improving existing programs. She has particular experience and expertise in writing policies and procedures. She has been able to simplify complex processes to simple and effective processes. She is a team player who works well with others, always striving to find middle ground to keep things moving.
In 2014, embracing her diversity of experience, she established a private practice appropriately named “With God’s Help, Licensed Clinical Social Work, LLC. In this practice, Sylvia sees clients for Psychotherapy, she provides coaching through difficult life transitions, training and presentations on a host of social work related topics.
